What Causes Fever, Severe Cough, Sore Throat And Mucus In Chest?

default
Posted on Wed, 13 Apr 2016
Question: Last Sunday I woke up to mucus in my chest, no runny nose prior to. I have been running a fever for the last two days and developed a horrible cough which produces a thick yellow mucus and a sore throat from all of the coughing. The strange part that is unfamiliar to me is the sudden mucus that would normally come from a runny nose that just happened over night? I am thinking Bronchitis but wanted to ask a professional.

Brief Answer:
a lower respiratory tract infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

this is obviously a lower respiratory tract infection which could be bronchitis or pneumonia. Your doctor can distinguish between them (most of the times) with clinical examination (auscultation) but sometimes a chest X-ray might be required to clarify the situation. Using ambroxol or acetylcysteine may help with the mucus. The cough should be suppressed since you've got phlegm.

I hope you find my comments helpful!
