Question: My Mom who is 77 has atrial fib high blood pressure pulmonary hypertension. She is on blood pressure arrhythmia medicine blood thinners and diretics. She had surgery two weeks for a twisted or tangled colon. After surgery she did ok for a couple days but then developed a constriction and a obstruction. After this she was allowed no food or water. They had give her medicine through an IV. This past Thursday they put in a pic line for nutrients. The obstruction is no longer but she has retainedfluid due to the fact she is off diretics and blood thinner. They don't want to start diretics ubtil she is back on food and they have her straightened out. Tonight Sunday she developed a fever and quivering. When I visited her today she sounded congested and coughing and was retaining fluid. They have since moved her to ICU. She has had pneumonia a lot in the past. You think possible pneumonia?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.
I think that her symptoms are related to cor pulmonale and right sided heart failure. This has caised pulmonary congestion.
If she was my patient I would recommend to increase diuretics dose and to do sub cutaneous injection of enoxaparin.
Since she hasn't take oral anticoagulation (blood thinner) and diuretics she should take them by injection.
Since she is without fever I don't think she has pneumonia.
Wish you health!
