What Causes Finger Numbness?
There are many potential reasons
Detailed Answer:
There are many reasons why fingers can be numb on a hand. Since it's not on the right hand as well then, some of those reasons such as diabetes, Vitamin B12, Vitamin D deficiency, or kidney disease are not going to be the most likely things to consider.
Nevertheless, if numbness has been present for 5 weeks continuously and there has been no improvement then, this certainly does merit a full workup and I recommend you find a neurologist since some of the remaining reasons as to the cause of something like this could involve evaluating and assessing both the brain as well as the spinal cord. I would need more information though to be able to make any intelligent guess as to what else could be causing this in a 39 year old person such as your background medical history, medications you're taking right now, family history of similar problems, etc.
Tests will probably need to be performed so that's why you should see a neurologist as soon as possible. And by the way, even if your symptoms should disappear or start to get better I think it is still important to get checked out since a good neurologist can still do investigative work to track down the "smoking gun."
I hope this addresses your concerns. If so, may I ask for the favor of a HIGH STAR RATING on our interaction and some brief written feedback.
