What Causes Finger Tremors In Hands And Burning Sensation In Body?

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Nov 2015
Question: Symptoms: Finger tremors in both hands (my mother has this). Breif burning sensations all over body from head to toe (about a month). Odd "nerve" feelings in my arms and face from time to time, not really numbness. Sometimes my left bicep will twitch for weeks. I have spontaneous muscle twitches all over. Recent MRI of brain and neck. MRI of brain and neck showed to be clean other than arthritis in neck from an old injury.

Brief Answer:
Rule out hyperthyroidism and Vitamin B12 deficiency

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Symptoms like finger tremors, muscle twitching and rarely burning sensation in the body can be due to any neurological illness or hormonal disturbances like Hyperthyroidism or rarely due to Vitamin B 12 deficiency .
If you have your MRI of brain and neck normal, then any pathology of these area are ruled out.
However, I will advise you to get a MRI of the thoracolumbar spine, thyroid hormone levels and Vitamin B 12 levels to confirm the diagnosis and get further treatment accordingly.

Wishing you good health.

Thank you for your quick response. He did check my thyroid but I'm not sure about B12 levels. I eat healthy and I do get plenty of vitamins, so i would be surprised. My question would be, what would I be looking for in the thoracolumbar spine MRI? I'm having symptoms in facial area also. I'm very concerned and my Neurologist seemed to want to blame it on the arthritis in my neck..

Brief Answer:
Get some investigation as advised and provide more details

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
One diagnosis with positive family history of tremors may be essential tremors.
But at this age secondary causes should be ruled out.
Are you having any headache, hearing loss, visual loss or blurring, gait ataxia, ear discharge?
Any other motor, sensory loss or bladder bowel symptoms?
You should explain more about tremors like are the fine or coarse, at rest or action. Relationship to anxiety.
Get free T3 free T4 levels, vitamin D3, vitamin B12 and other routine tests like renal function.
You can take clonazepam for some time to see the response, betablocker like propranolol may also be tried.
Other investigation or consultation with a neurologist for detailed examination can be planned once these investigations are done.
Provide additional information as asked.
No need for thoraco lumbar Mri at present.
