What Causes Flatulence, Bloating And Diarrhea With The History Of IBS?

default
Posted on Mon, 18 Apr 2016
Question: I am 46 years old - female, white. I have always been very active and am not overweight. I was diagnosed with IBS about 18 years ago. Within the last 2 months I have noticed changes - I am finding it very hard to control gas that is very smelly. my stool is foul-smelling and floats. I have 2-3 diarrhea-type bowel movements a day, but always pass a little stool every time I use the bathroom. I have been trying all sorts of anti-gas over the counter medications with no affect. I have been gluten-free for 4 years now. Help?

Brief Answer:
Diarrhea predominant IBS flare

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. With history of IBS, these symptoms of bloating and gas and diarrhea symptoms and greasy stools make it diarrhea predominant IBS flare and needs supportive care.

Probiotics, rolaids, nexium, prilosec and anti gas meds help but these are not enough alone and need complete diet and lifestyle modifications.

eat small frequent meals, avoid spices, fatty meals, processed and canned foods, soda, beverages, alcohol. beer, confectionaries and sweets, chocolates, stimulants like tea coffeee etc. Prefer more fiber, fluids, take yogurt and peppermint with every meal as former is best natural probiotic and later is best antispasmodics. Take some imodium for you diarrhea and use BRAT ( Banana rice applesauce and toast) till recovery.

No worries, its just an IBS flare and need supportive and preventive care only. I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
