What Causes Floaters In The Field Of The Vision?

Question: I'm only interested in speaking with an opthamologist if one is available. Yesterday afternoon, I started seeing something out of the corner of my eye that almost seemed like a bug flying by. This lasted for a short time and then went away. Then today, I've had a floater in the same eye that won't go away. I tried Systane drops but that did not help. I do not have diabetes and had a recent blood test that was normal except for slightly elevated cholesterol. I am 51yo, 5'4" and about 115lbs.
