Brief Answer:
Neurological causes for what you are seeing

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for your description of your symptoms.

It is certainly possible to have odd types of visual sightings from a neurological perspective. 2 of the most common causes for such visualized entities would be aura to migraine headache and lack of oxygen to the part of the brain called the occipital lobe. The thing of the 2nd entity is that in fact, it is by definition a stroke but does not behave in the typical way that most people know strokes are having to do with changes in speech or language and weakness or paralysis on one side of the body. In an occipital lobe stroke none of those things would necessarily occur but instead many funny visual things start happening such as the hallucinations you describe or other odd things could be seeing a particular scene that just occurred happening over and over again. That is referred to as PALLINOPSIA. And then, there are a number of other things that can happen.

The only way to know for sure what is going on is to be examined by a specialist such as a neurologist who would then, send you for an MRI of the brain. A CAT scan for something like this is usually not good enough to detect what's going on in the occipital lobe so MRI is always the preferred imaging modality with these sorts of symptoms.

If the odd visualizations and flashing lights occur in the context of a very bad headache with throbbing and nausea or vomiting then, it could be the migraine headache I described at first. If I were the neurologist treating you I would also do the MRI study with gadolinium contrast. I would also get an MRA imaging study which would look at the blood vessels of the brain.

If on the other hand these phenomenon either come and go over the course of the day or if they just come very briefly and then, disappear it is always possible that this could be due to stress or anxiety. I am aware that you have a pattern of overthinking a lot of things that go on with you and cannot stop looking on the internet about your symptoms. Therefore, stress and anxiety would be next to consider if organic reasons do not pan out upon examination and testing.
