Question: I admit I have been under stress ..I did some heavy lifting and the next day my eye was flashing..I also had new floaters..they are moving around my left eye like moving bugs..it is driving me crazy! I am nearsighted od. -9.50 and os -6.00 what can I do to make this better....can I continue to exercise on elliptical and bike? Can I continue to read? Should I keep laying down..? How do I solve this situation? I went to the retinal specialist he saw no new tears..I have had laser done on the lattice around the perimeter on the left eye as preventative..I have had two tears on the right eye..please help me thanks so much!

I was on blood pressure meds but had problems taking it so I stopped I was taking 1/4 tablet of attenol had been on it for 2 weeks but stopped because of low blood pressure..did that cause this?

Brief Answer:
Buckling surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query,

Firstly a briefing about your problem.
These ate because of floaters. Floaters are dark specks in the form of dots, circles, lines, flashes or cobwebs that seem to move across your field of vision. Floaters are small clumps of visible material within the vitreous. Usually they remain clumped but in old age bits of debris are discarded by the vitreous humour or retina that causes protein (connective tissue) to be released.Hence crystal-like deposits may form in the vitreous and interfere with light passing from the front of the eye to the back. These floating particle within the vitreous are seen as shadows in retina. The vitreous sometimes pulls on the retina. This may cause you to see flashing lights or lightning streaks, even though there aren't any such lights present. When the vitreous separates from the retina.

As per you query most common cause is Age-related eye changes. Eye floaters most commonly occur as a result of age-related changes in the vitreous.Over time, the vitreous partially liquefies — a process that causes it to pull away from the eyeball's interior surface. As the vitreous shrinks and sags, it clumps and gets stringy. Bits of this debris block some of the light passing through the eye, casting tiny shadows on your retina. Retinal tears can occur when a sagging vitreous tugs on the retina with enough force to tear it. Without treatment, retinal tear may lead to retinal detachment.

Treatment suggested
Almost all retinal detachments can be repaired with scleral buckle surgery, pneumatic retinopexy, or vitrectomy. But even with such a high rate of success for surgery, it is important to act quickly. The longer you wait to have surgery, the lower the chances that good vision will be restored.Great results are seen after scleral buckle surgery.

However for retinal tears-

Second option is-
Freezing (cryopexy). After giving a local anesthetic to numb your eye, the opthal applies a freezing probe to the outer surface of the eye directly over the tear. The freezing causes a scar that helps secure the retina to the eye wall.
Blood pressure and its medicines are not at all responsible for your problems.

You can continue doing exercises etc progression of this problem has nothing to do with it.Meet your opthalmologist and plan for buckling surgery.

Regards.

The doctor said I do not require surgery at this time..but do the floaters ever subside..they are driving me crazy..like little bugs..did stress bring this on? Will the lightening bolts go away? What can I do to make this better? I can continue reading and exerting without adding to more problems? Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Age and injury are the only known causes till date.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
No in 99% of cases floaters never subside by their own and unfortunately we don't even have any medication to stop this process or to slow down this process.
Stress blood pressure has no direct relation to them. However age is the only known factor at present.
No as there are tears on retina lightening etc will all be there.
To make things better change your opthalmologist and consult some one who has been regularly performing retinal buckling.Wait and watch will only make your case worse.
See this problem is going to increase over time only thing which can help is buckling surgery. So why not top go for surgery? What are you waiting for?
Its not a self limiting problem so in 99.9% cases things worsens up with time.

Don't over strain your eyes however normal reading etc can be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
In your initial query you have mentioned that " I went to the retinal specialist he saw no new tears." This means that there were some tears earlier corrected by laser?.
"I have had laser done on the lattice around the perimeter on the left eye as preventative".
"I have had two tears on the right eye" but nothing has been done till date on right eye.

Now you are mentioning that you have no tears at all.So what happened to tears in right retina?

Please go through your initial query once again.

I had two tears on my right eye that were by laser and on my left eye I just had preventative care where they lasered around the perimeter of the eye...I am just wanting to know how to make it better..the flashes are still coming frequently and the floaters are driving me crazy.. I did move furniture that day and I played at the casino on the slot machines with my mom for three hours that day..could that have brought them on.. Should I stay down to help the flashes go away..the doc said no new tears but my eye is flashing thanks sorry for the misunderstanding

Both eyes were repaired by laser 15 years ago

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

Eye exercises can help you get rid of floaters inside eye white fast. You should not be scared though because you have a floater in eye that won't go away. Normally, after around six months of exercise they may start to settle down.
Therapy that can be tried to reduce floaters and flases are-
-Massage your temples gently while your eyes are closed and covered with a warm cloth. You can also rub your hands together to generate heat and place them over your eyelids.
-Roll your eyes in circular motions clockwise, then counter-clockwise. Repeat a few times a day. Another exercise is to hold an object (for example, a pen) in front of you as far away as possible. Focus on the object and slowly bring it closer to your face – about six inches away. Repeat moving it further and closer a few times.
-Prolonged screen time can harm your eyes.Avoid mobiles and screens for long time.
- Foods high in antioxidants can help fight off free radical damage (which can lead to eye floaters). Antioxidant-rich foods include blueberries, XXXXXXX pomegranate, oranges, and strawberries.

-Avoid any thing which strains your eyes too much.So yes straining your eyes constantly for very long periods like in casino can have aggravated your problem. It however has no relation to resting.

Follow the above mentioned suggestions for atleast 6 months.
Have a practical approach. This is a time taking process and may take even months before showing any result.
