What Causes Fluctuating Heart Rate?
I would explain as follows:
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
I understand your concern and would like to explain that as long as you heart is in normal sinus rhythm, nothing to worry about heart rate variability.
Heart rate may speed up by several triggering factors, such as physical and psychological stress, eating, standing up from lying position, smoking, taking heavy alcoholic drinks, caffeine, anemia, hyperthyroidism, etc.
If your observation is incidental and you don't have any complains (palpitation, weakness, dizziness, etc), you don't need to undertake any further step to further investigate on this issue.
Just try to avoid any of the above present triggering factors and follow the routine scheduled medical check up.
But, if you have current complains, I recommend consulting with your attending physician for a fast medical check up, including a careful physical examination coupled with a resting ECG and several lab tests, like:
- complete blood count,
- thyroid function test,
- blood electrolytes,
- orthostatic intolerance tests, like Tilt testing (if suspicions are raised),etc.
If nothing abnormal is concluded by all the above investigation, then an anxiety disorder should be sought.
You need to discuss with your attending doctor about the above mentioned issues.
Hope to have been helpful to you!
In case of further uncertainties, feel free to ask me!
Greetings!
Dr. Iliri
