What Causes Fluctuations In BP?
I am 25 years old, there is always fluctuation in my blood pressure. Sometimes its on 140/90, 135/90.
Is it something serious?
One of doctor(orthopaedist) has tell me to do blood test.
What should I do?
Check it once in 2 to 3 days for 2 weeks.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,
Blood pressure is a continuous variable. That means, it changes every moment. It increases with increase activity (physical and mental both). It increases with all kind of stress. Ideally, it should be checked around same time of day, when you are not stressed, have no headache or physical pain. You should not have smoked, taken tea/ coffee or undergone physical exercise in last one hour.
For monitoring you should check it once in 2-3 days for 2-3 weeks. If all or most of readings are below 140/90 mmHg, it does not warrant further work-up.
However try to avoid excess salt/ alcohol intake. Do not smoke. Keep optimal weight and do daily supervised exercise.
Sincerely
Sukhvinder.
