What Causes Fluid Around The Kidney?
Get back with scan reports please
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the Day
Dear Ms,
Fluid around he kidney is perinephric collection. In a female child its likely to be due to Vesico-ureteric Reflux(reflux of urine back into the ureter from urinary bladder causing back pressure).
It would be very helpful if you could get back to me with following detailed reports
1. Was any antenatal scan done? did it reveal any abnormality in the kidney of fetus?
2. How was the mode of delivery? normal or caesarean section?
3. What was the report of ultrasound?
when was it done, how often was the follow up scans done? get back to me with all the reports
4. What are the symptoms the baby is having
Kindly get back to me with the details
Take Care

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Greetings
Dear Madam,
Going by your description alone, it appears to be Peri Nephric collection.
I would suggest you to look for the following pints while consulting nephrologist
ULTRASOUND INDICES
1. Degree of Hydronephrosis if present: Hydronephrosis is enlargement of Pelvis and calyces of kidney
2. Measurement of Pelvis Antero-posterior diameter on Ultrasound
3. Renal Cortico-medullary differentiation
4. Presence of Hydro-UReter that is dilatation of Ureter
5. Bladder thickening
6. To rule out Polcystic kidney
BIOCHEMICAL INDICES
1.Serum Creatinine level
2. Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN)
3. Serum Electrolytes
If the baby is passing urine normally, gaining weight adequately, absence of fever then there is no urgency or threat.
Further decision and management will depend on exact Ultrasound report
Discuss it with Physician. You can keep me informed about developments.
Take Care
