What Causes Food Intolerances, Interrupted Sleep, Stomach Pain And Loose Stool?

default
Posted on Mon, 10 Aug 2015
Question: My (almost) 4 year old has had suspected food intolerances since birth. Interrupted sleep, uncomfortable stomach pains, loose stools, constipated, on and on.
she urinates very frequently (at least once per hour, often 2 or 3 times an hour and wets her pants often as she can't get to the toilet in time) and often says she's thirsty. From time to time (maybe once a week) Her stools are a pale grey, white colour and quite formed in shape. Other times her stools are yellowish and sloppy.
I'm concerned she has an undiagnosed condition and this will continue unless I get to the bottom of it!

Brief Answer:
Step wise investigation is needed

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

Before starting I have few queries
1)What is the current height and weight of baby
2)Please specify the exact age when the food intolerance started(after introduction of complementary feed at age of 6 month or earlier)
3)Has she been investigated earlier(if yes please attach the reports)
4)Is there any family history of diabetes or GI problem

After clinical detail I would like to rule out Celiac disease, diabetes and some renal disorder like renal tubular acidosis.
As history of symptoms are long a battery of investigation will be needed to reach a proper diagnosis.

I would like to get Hemogram with RBC indices(to see any anemia and iron deficiency as this is common in long standing malabsorption),blood sugar(to rule out diabetes causing frequent urination and increased thirst),blood gas(to see acidosis and anion gap to rule out renal tubular acidosis),urine test(to see pH or persistent infection),stool test(for fat globules to rule out fat malabsorption),celiac serology(to rule out celiac disease as there is history of long standing food intolerance).

I would suggest you to consult your pediatrician and discuss about the possible diagnosis and investigations accordingly.

I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you need any further clarification.
Regards
