What Causes Foul Smelling Urine?

default
Posted on Fri, 19 Dec 2014
Question: My urine and skin smell like they've been burnt by morning time. I get up in the middle of the night every two hours to urinate. My Dr. took urine and blood samples and couldn't find anything wrong with me. Then, two weeks later, I passed 6 small kidney stones. I still have my night-time urine and smell. What on earth could this be?

Brief Answer:
Further evaluation and tests needed

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for posting your concern in the HCM.
My understanding is, this may happen due to urinary tract infection or recurrent renal or ureteric stone or some endocrinological problem, like diabetes or liver disease. Some investigations are needed to come to a final diagnosis-
Complete blood count, urea, creatinine, electrolytes, HbA1c, LFT
Urine for routine examination and culture sensitivity testing
USG KUB region (This is needed because you have past history of renal stones)

Although you don't have asked for any curative measures, some measures need to be taken-
1. Drink plenty of oral fluid (preferably 3-4 lit/day)
2. Avoid carbonated beverages, and alcohol
3. Avoid washing genitalia with alkaline soaps
4. You may use Uriliser syrup 10ml twice daily.
Please write back after you have the test reports to get more accurate answer.
