What Causes Frequent Bowel Movements In An Infant?

My 14 month old has been passing foamy stool off late. Usually her frequency of motion has increased from 1/2 times to 3/4 times and the last one is usually foamy (sometimes lighter in color). In general her stool has softened from before.
Is this a sign of any problem?
Off late, I have introduced some fruit juices in her diet like Mosambi and Pomegrenate. I dilute it with water while giving. Can this be the problem?
Let me know.
Don't worry,It may be due to the fruit juice
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
In this age group transient change in stool pattern is normal unless it is mixed with blood/mucus or associated with other symptoms like vomiting, decreased oral acceptance, irritability, lethargy or decreased urinary output.
In most of the cases the change in stool pattern is due to introduction of any new food item.Sometimes it is due to viral infection.
Fruit juices( increase content of sorbitol causing osmotic diarrhea)are well known for change in stool consistency.
In your case I assume it to be due to juices only.
I request you to observe for her oral acceptance, activity, any increase in frequency of stool or decrease in frequency of urination.
Avoid using fruit juices and if you notice any abnormality let me know or consult your pediatrician.
I hope this helps.
Please do ask if you have any more query.
Regards
