Question: For the past 4-5 days i have been pooping about 6 times per day. No blood in it but it is way more than normal which is maybe 1 time. Its not exactly diarrea.Started about a week ago after having a salad which seemed to not digest well. Is this something to be concerned with?

Brief Answer:
Trial of Flagyl and diet modification, Keep yourself HYDRATED

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for posting query at HCM.

I went through your query and understood your concern.
It seems - acute gastroenteritis and usually the disease is self limited.
Most of the causes are bacterial but do not cause severe symptoms.

Therefore, given your current presentation, I advise:

1. Avoid oily food, meat and junk food altogether for few days
2. Include PLAIN YOGURT in your meals
3. Have small meals that are fat-free or with limited fat
4. Keep yourself HYDRATED. you may drink OTC Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS)
5. Take OTC Flagyl twice or thrice daily after or during meals for couple to few days

Wish you speedy recovery and good n sound health
Best regards

Brief Answer:
Conservative management and observation

Detailed Answer:
hi.
Thanks for writing back.

Gastritis and/or GERD is usually NOT associated with increased frequency of stool.

Apart from flagyl, you may just follow the advise as mentioned in the previous answer and observe your symptoms for couple to few days. Also avoid fiber-rich food, and include Plain Yogurt in your diet. If the frequency of stool does NOT decrease even after 4 to 5 days following advise then better to visit a gastroenterologist.

Any further questions are welcomed.
Wish you speedy recovery and good n sound health
Best regards

Is it the quantity or the conaistency that is most important?

Answered by Dr. Tayyab Malik (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Frequency/consistency matters.Quantity depends on what you eat

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Pleased to answer your concerns.

The more fiber in the diet, the bulkier the stool and more in quantity.

However, if frequency of stool is more than 3 times per day and/or consistency is liquid or very solid (difficult to pass), such a presentation should be discussed with a physician and/or a gastroenterologist.

Hope to answer your concern
Best regards

I felt the need to go this morning and it was mostly gas a mucus. Clear gel like. Then a few hours later i did a relatively normal one. I had been on antibiotics for a few weeks prior to the start. Is the mucus only poop concerning? Ive never seen thst before. Im hoping its just some sort of irritation.

Brief Answer:
Take Probiotics and Diet Modification

Detailed Answer:
hi.
thanks for getting back.

NO need to panic dear.
The current mucus and gas trouble maybe due to indigestion secondary to depleted bacterial flora in the intestine.

OTC probiotics maybe taken.

Further advice:

1. Avoid oily food, meat and junk food altogether for few days
2. Include PLAIN YOGURT in your meals. Yogurt is a natural probiotic
3. Have small meals that are fat-free or with limited fat
4. Avoid eating broccoli, brussels sprouts and cabbage, Baked beans
5. Warm water intake is encouraged
6. Avoid beverages / alcohol/ soft drinks
7. Avoid carbonated drinks

Hope following above advise would help to restore normal gut flora with few days to a week.

Wish you good and sound health

Regards
Dr Tayyab Malik
