Hello,
It's been about 2-3 months. Usually in the morning...often before I eat. Doesn't seem to be food related. I take fiber gummies daily. I used to take benefiber. Would the latter be better?
No fever, weight loss or blood.
Thanks.

Hello again
Chronic diarrhea needs to be investigated extensively to reach the cause. Stool routine exam plus ova and parasites should be done initially as a noninvasive investigation. Leucocytosis if present would warrant the use of empiric antibiotics that cover gram negatives and anaerobes such as enoxacin and metronidazole combination. In my practice, loperamide, rifaximin, psyllium husk and probiotics like enterogermina used for 1 month help greatly in resolving the IBS D symptoms.
If the symptoms persist despite the above then anti transtissue glutaminase antibody to look for possible celiac disease should be done. Upper GI endoscopy with duodenal biopsy and breath test for bacterial overgrowth can also be done. You may apprise your doctor and discuss this strategy with him/her.
