What Causes Glaucoma?

Question: I ask a question regarding my galucoma and retinal problems. Blind in right eye, etc. WHY, was my question answered yet, not answered by a radiologist ????? I researched what he said, I want to know what if anything can be done for me. My question ca only be answered by an eye specialist.

Brief Answer:
glaucoma leading to loss of vision in one eye.

Detailed Answer:
Glaucoma is raised intraocular pressure.Mainly it is of two types,like open angle or close angle. Glaucoma treatment for it is by topical drop or oral medication and surgery. Before any treatment field tracing and anterior chamber examination gonioscopy is required. It affects peripheral vision leading to a tubular vision.

Fundus examination is required to asses cup disc ratio treatment and type of surgery is to be decided by treating doctor. In one eye you have lost vision.

Sir you have to give detail of present status, and result of investigation. For blind eye what is the residual vision? PL, PR present or not? If no then nothing can be done for that.

For good eye detail of report like IOP, field, cup disc ratio etc provocation test like darkroom test ,water drinking test,can be done to asses present status. Your present eye is valuable since you have lost the other eye. Conservative treatment with what ever residual vision, should be tried to save the vision.

First of all I am a female, you referred to me as,'Sir.' I have had surgery on the right eye. Those tests you referred to, I have never heard of, such as water drinking test. I have had numerous visual field tests, pictures of the eyes taken. It all started with Macular Pucker and just went down hill from there. My specialist thinks there is a possibility of tear in the retina. I have so many floaters from time to time. Some days I can see better than others. The right eye, blind eye, has only a very small area in the upper right hand corner that has any light with slight vision. At times it will tear for an entire day. It was larger until about three weeks ago. The pressure is around 11 in the right eye, and 14 in the left eye, the one with vision. I am deeply concerned about my left eye as the retina is very thin and fragile; I do not want to lose what vision I have in that eye. There is lot of damage to it from the glaucoma. I have two types of glaucoma. Is there a possibility of a optic nerve transplant? And if there is a tear in the retina of the good eye can anything be done? My son is a funeral director in XXXXXXX and he sees many who have donated their eyes to the living. Please refer to precious question for more information. Thank you.

clearification regarding treatment of glaucoma.

Sorry madam I may be excused for that.

When i asked for certain tests then i was not knowing details of your history or treatment taken. There are three test that water drinking darkroom and drug induced test. They are indicated only when it is not possible to confirm glaucoma or raised tension, in your case it is left eye.

so many floaters indicate tear or hole in retina. it requires follow up of fundus examination to observe any deterioration in condition of good eye. you will agree with me that your left eye is precious since you have lost right eye. What ever vision,it should be preserved in left eye. laser or surgery in left eye will be with risk.

Optic nerve transplant is not possible Donated eye is use full for very limited purpose, means only corneal transplantation. Nothing more is possible. That is why i have advised conservative treatment for left eye to prolong the availability of vision.

I am waiting on approval of Insurance for a retinal specialist. Several specialists have told me the retina in the left eye (one with vision) is very thin and fragile. What is anything can be done to preserve the vision in this eye?? I live alone with no other means of transportation except myself so my vision is most important to me. I know there is something wrong. If there is a tear or hole in the retina can this be repaired?? I am greatly concerned since the retina is so thin and fragile. Can the retina be transplanted from a healthy donor. Can it be regenerated? What is out there to preserve what vision I have remaining?? As it stands as of now I will not pass test for drivers license renewal next Sept. If visual field shows only this tiny area in right eye the doctor will not allow me to get license. I don't want to hurt myself or anyone else. What can I do to help myself preserve my vision?

i have already said it can be repaired. But repairing it involves full of risk. If we are ready for risk then you can consider getting it repaired. Retina transplantation is not possible nor done any where in world.

At the moment to preserve remaining vision, as I have informed only conservative treatment with topical eye drops / oral medication may be tried. Your local doctor will know about it.

I understand you won't be able to renew driving licence. Please discuss with your current treating doctor / future retina specialist about my options. Let me know if your doctor suggest other available options.
