What Causes Globus Sensation With Tingling Sensation In The Face?

Posted on Wed, 14 Jun 2017
Question: Hello, worried about head/neck cancer.

Risk factors:
I drink too much (recently cut back).
Smokeless tobacco (can a day for ~7 years. JUST now quit)
I assume I have HPV because I used to get occasional cold sores when I was younger

Symptoms, feeling of a lump in the throat with very occasional momentary pain. Tingling in the face (exacerbated when I dip too much).
New symptom, tingling in the sides of the neck with very occasional momentary pain.

The symptoms are persistent but not constant.

I had a throat endoscopy done by an ENT 6 weeks ago. Found irritation but nothing that worried him. I had a follow up with him this week but he didn't feel the need to do another endoscopy based off what he saw 6 weeks ago. I saw a dentist right before I quit and there is tissue damage on where I kept the dip (both sides of the mouth) but said to only be concerned with that if I see no improvement 2 weeks after quitting (said it looked typical of someone who dips). Did not find any lumps in the neck during external exam.

I do have occasional anxiety over this and I notice that the more I worry about it the more the lump is noticeable. The tingling in the face and neck can occur even when it is not on my mind.

Thoughts? Thanks

Also occasional tingling in the tip of the tongue. Thanks

Occasionally the tingling is just offset from the adam's apple, but it's usually about half way from the adam's apple to the side of the neck (midway)

Brief Answer:
Gerd

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to healthcare magic and thanks for putting up the query
The symptoms you have mentioned are due to gastric reflux disease whuch is common in anxious people.
As you said that endoscopy os absolutely normal, i guess you need not worry about any head and neck cancer at all as endoscopy is a very good test to ruke it out. Secondly your symptoms are completely unrelated to any head and neck cancer.
The tingling sensation in your tongue might be due to calcium deficiency or just anxiety.
My advise is take an antacid once daily and a clacium supplements and avoid spicy foods and fried foods.
Avoid stress and anxiety.
Drink plenty of water.
Any further queries are always welcome.
Stay healthy.
Thanks and regards

Thanks for the answer. The tingling in my face (checek bones and below), lower gums (where I kept the dip) worry me but they were an occasional symptom when I dipped more than normal. The tingling in my neck (about two inches offset from each side of my adam's apple and then a bit up and down from that point) is definitely new though.

I guess it is just weird that this is all happening at once and there are new sensations?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
GERD with calcium deficiency

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the information.
I feel the tingling sensation is just due to anxiety related to cancer but still I would advise you to take calcium supplements and vitamin b12 1500 micrograms once daily.
Take these for at least 3 weeks.
secondly you should give up the habit of drinking and smoking. This will help you stay healthy and avoid any further anxiety.
Stay healthy.
Take care
Thanks and regards
