What Causes Grey Hair?

default
Posted on Wed, 6 Apr 2016
Question: I have a few grey hairs, maybe due to my vitiligo, and although the vitiligo isn't on my scalp, I have noticed random grey hairs. I came across a new product. They back up how it works by a science study. Will this product possibly work? Or is it scam?

Brief Answer:
Not scientifically validated. Randomised clinical trials lacking.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

First of all, we need to evaluate the cause of the greying of hair in your case. If it is due to vitiligo, it is not be in random pattern and would rather have a patchy pattern. Depending on your description therefore it seems that the greying is just a normal greying and not due to vitiligo. It is hard to comment definitively without a proper clinical evaluation.

As regards the cause of greying of hair, it is most often due to depletion of the pigment producing cells at the base of the hair follicles from where strands of hair arise. I have gone through the product description and the claims that the company makes. But let me also state that there is no definite documented evidence that it actually works. Claims need to be validated scientifically and such validated evidence does not exist. Needless to say that there is indeed a possibility of the claim being a void one and so use it at your own risk if you really wish to experiment and see if it works.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
