What Causes Greying Of Hair While Treating Vitiligo?
Question: Hello,
I have two areas of vitiligo. However, I had noticed some gray hairs on hair randomly in last two years, and some in pubic area (areas where no vitiligo is). In the pubic area they are in on area, but i've noticed that the hairs appear to be repigmenting. Is this right? From the root to over half way up some hairs are black, only the top tip is gray. From what I read this points to a hair repigmenting rather than depigmenting, as it is at the root black and not the other way?
I have started taking tyrosine supplement in last months and also my MCV was high 6 months ago so started daily vitamin B complex 6 months ago with PABA. Maybe these are helping to restore normal colour?

Brief Answer:
PABA might be helping in repigmentation of hair.

Hi !

Yes you are having repigmentation of hair. Although greying of hair is progressive and permanent but repigmentation is seen occasionally in few individuals. Para aminobenzoic acid ( PABA) might be helping in repigmentation. There are studies suggesting a role of PABA in this but I doubt the role of tyrosine supplements and vitamin B complex.

Thanks for reply.
It sounds like good news. I also have regimentation patch of vitiligo which is growing bigger too, but this might be due to protopic I apply. But it could be also the supplements. I read vitamin b can be good for vitiligo, paba too and I read about tyrosine linked to hair and skin. So I continue to take all of these and hope for progressive good results.
Also, my high MCV if it was due to vitamin b deficiency, it can cause some gray hairs which reversible if corrected? if so, it could be also partly this.
I find tyrosine has a posotive effect on mood.

Brief Answer:
Continue with the medicines
Detailed Answer:
Repigmentation in vitiligo patches is due to protopic ointment . These supplements might be having some effect. So you continue with all the medicines and hopefully your vitiligo patches will disappear.
