What Causes Hard Lump In The Left Upper Side Of Abdomen?

default
Posted on Thu, 24 Jul 2014
Question: I can feel a hard lump in the left upper side of my abdomen. It is not painful but I have felt a little bloated. I have been dieting for a month or so but haven't lost any weight. I have been avoiding gluten. Instead of my stomach shrinking it feels more bloated. I have no cancer in my family. I very rarely drink any alcohol and odn't smoke but am occasionally around others who do. I seem to get a little more gas and my stomach "churns" more than before. I thought that may have been related to diet. But that was before I noticed this area last night. It is really scaring me.

Brief Answer:
Most probably fecolith

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about lump- bloating-dieting- avoiding gluten- gas and churning.

If one starts a change in the diet, like you have, the setting of the body clock takes much more time. As you have stared dieting and are on a gluten-free diet, the bowel takes time for the new changes and can show th response as is seen in your case.

The hard lump in the left upper side of your abdomen with bloating is more suggestive of an impacted fecolith, meaning hard feces which has got impacted in the transverse part of the large bowel
This in turn causes the intestines to get collection of the gases and one feels bloated.. Bloating makes the intestines to contract more and more to push and then you get a feeling of the churning.

I would suggest you to come back to a normal diet as before. Take a mild laxative and / or soap water enema. This will facilitate the pushing of the fecolith/s. And the swelling may vanish
And your problem will be solved.
