What Causes Hay Fever Along With Urticaria?
Question: I am 85 years of age. I have always had hay fever and other allergies. I am allergic to penicillin and sulfa drugs. Have sometimes also had food allergies--carry an Epipen. Recently, I've broken out with hives--some sort of urticaria on my forearms and a bit on my scalp--itch like crazy. Have tried cortisone creams, other anti-itch external remedies; have taken over-the-counter allergy pills. Nothing seems to help. I do have a cat, but have always had cats, and have never had this kind of reaction. As one gets older, are these things to be more expected. Can you recommend a product to relieve this. These things come and go; have washed all my bed linens with anti allergy detergent, ammonia, etc., have used dust mite spray on furniture; still no relief.Please name specific products that I can buy or other measures to take. I must leave my house now, so will look among my emails for response. Thank you...x. xxxx

The best treatment of allergy is the identification of allergen and if possible complete avoidance of it.
So I'd suggest getting one complete allergy panel testing if not done previously.
You should also start a combination of anti histamine (Levocetirizine or Fexofenadine) and anti allergic (Montelukast). It is commonly available as montair LC, Allegra M, Montek LC etc(you may need a prescription from your local physician for this).
This should be taken at night time before going to bed.
Usually, allergy doesn't worsen with age. But in some cases, unknown allergen exposure can worsen the pre-existing allergy.
