What Causes Headache In Children Despite A Normal Neurological Test?

default
Posted on Tue, 25 Oct 2016
Question: Hi! my 5 year old daughter has been complaining of headaches on the top of the head for about 4-5 months now with a frequency of 1-2 times per week. I took her to see an optometrist and her vision was fine, she did not need glasses. I have been keeping track of the frequency on a headache diary and the events that I think might have led her to get the heartaches , plus I have mentioned to two of her pediatric doctors at different occasions but based on a basic neurological test they performed at the office and both said the was fine without any further testing. Tonight after two hours into sleep she started to cry stating that he felt as if a 100 mosquitos were bitting her on the bottom of her feet, at this time she is getting over a cold, and since she is a picky eater her diet in the last couple of days has been extremely poor. I don't know if the teaches and the tingling sensation she described today should be of high concern, or just a sign of low calcium or electrolytes. Her skin is usually smooth and clear but today i noticed she had a few pimple like spots on the right side of her face. (don't know if thats relevant) but did not eat anything abnormal. What should I do next? Please advice. Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Likely to be a viral infection

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concern. Unfortunately, such a situation is hard both on your part as well on the part of doctors. I would insist you to get a CT Scan of brain done for your child. If the results are conclusive (less likely) treatment will get a direction. But in case nothing definite comes up you would remain in the grey zone once again. In such a situation you would have to ignore it (as doctors would be unable to help you with hardly any definite finding present) or deal with it using paracetamol as and when needed.

About the rashes, probably it is due to a viral infection. I would not attach high importance to the tingling sensation. I would request you to upload an image for confirmation. You may give her some antiallergic like cetirizine once daily for next few days. You may also apply some emollient like calamine lotion topically. Give some vitamin B supplements like A to Z syrup for next few days. Hopefully things would be back to normal in a week or so.

I would await your response.

Regards
