What Causes Headaches After Having Dilantin For Brain Bleed?

default
Posted on Tue, 30 Dec 2014
Question: I am taking Dilantin 100 mg two per night after having a brain bleed and a seizure. The bleed has stopped but I am having debilitating headaches. Because I have had necrosis of the right kidney due to over use of analgesics I don't know what to take for the headaches. Panadol and paracetamol have no effect. My kidney specialist has told me that Mersyndol is fine but can I take it with Dilantin, and if not, what can I take for the headaches ? I am 72 years old. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Can be taken with Dilantin

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

The combination is safe to be used with Dilantin except that Dilantin reduces the efficacy of acetaminophen present in mersyndol.
In also recommend you to try Panadol Extra,it contains caffeine in it which is good for headaches.
In my patients I prescribe tab tramadol, it is safe to be used in patients with kidney issues. However the issue is that long term use might cause dependency since it an opiod analgesic. Please approach your doctor with my suggestion.

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
