What Causes Headaches Along With Sore Joints And Muscles?

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Dec 2014
Question: Hi, for over three months now I have been experiencing headaches. Doesn't really hurt, just feels like a pounding on top or at the fore front of my head. It disturbs my concentration. Sometimes feel like something moving around, but tend to feel slightly better when I wear a cap or press something on my head. It's a accompanied lately by sharp tingling sensation in toes, fingers, and other parts of my body. I experience sore joints and muscle pains. Went for a run yesterday and stop running because of pain in my calf.

My full blood work was done twice and tested positive for lymph and I had high cholesterol. Was treated for lymph, but has not experience much change. MRI of the head and neck also came back ok. It said "there are multiple punctate areas of FLAIR hyperintensity involving the white matter both frontal lopes particularly in high convexity levels". Doctor says there's nothing alarming, but still feel quite unwell. Please help me. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The headache, sore joints and muscle pains that you have can be related to decreased fluid intake, electrolyte imbalance, Vitamin B 12 deficiency or Vitamin D3 deficiency. The cause seems to be benign and easily treatable. Stress and anxiety can also aggravate the headache like you have.
You can increase the intake of electrolyte rich fluids, take a mild pain killer and start with Vitamin B 12 and D3 supplements after getting the blood levels evaluated.
The white matter lesions in the brain usually represent ischemia (lack of blood flow) in the small blood vessels of the brain. Hence these lesions are more commonly seen in the MRI of patients who have cerebrovascular risk factors like hypertension, diabetes and high cholesterol as well those that smoke. Their incidence increases with age.

These lesions are responsible for memory impairment (vascular dementia) in some individuals. If asymptomatic, these are not worrisome.

I hope this answers your query.

Thank you Dr. Tayal,

My blood works results show that my vitamin B12 levels are high (998) and Vitamin D is low (21.4). I started taking vitamin D3 three weeks now. Could this also send frequent chills through my body and cause loss of appetite and full energy?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Can be due to low D3 levels.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Low levels of Vitamin D3 can cause all these symptoms that you have mentioned. It is best to expose your body to sunlight daily to boost your immunity and to enhance the effect of D3 supplements that you are taking. Doing a daily exercise like aerobics will also help in toning your muscles.
Hope my answer is helpful.
