Question: Hi, I live in rural Kansas. For about 8 months I have had heart palpatations and skipped beats, extreme fatigue some days, twitching on some areas of my body, I went to heart specialist, did heart XXXXXXX heart sonnogram and 24 hr heart monitor twice and they cant find any problems. Is it possible Lyme disease can cause this? I am outdoors a lot on our farm and contact many insects.I had taken 500 mg keflex twice daily for something else 6 weeks ago and thought my heart palps decreased 75 percent then returned after stopping keflex XXXX
Brief Answer:
THis could be caused by anxiety/Thyroid problems?
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have provided. From all the information, I am concerned that this could be caused by anxiety. This is because, with negative findings on physical exam and a 24hours holter monitoring, it would be very unlikely that these symptoms originate from the heart.
This is not a possible manifestation of lyme's disease. Lyme's disease would have caused objective changes to your heart electrical activities that would be picked up by one of the exams. When symptoms are reported and no direct cause is identified on extensive examination and investigations, the possibility of psychological concerns is raised. Keflex really has nothing to do with heart palpitations and skipped beats, the fact that these reduced during treatment must have been related to your psychological state than a real drug effect.
In all, I will suggest that you should be investigated for anxiety and thyroid disease. This is unlikely to have been caused by Lyme's disease.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarification if need be.

Thank you Dr. Ditah for the reply. You mentioned thyroid problem could be cause. What would be some symptoms of thyroid disorder and what tests to verify this problemDr. Ditah, one other thing the tests called my problem I was having was pre ventrical contractions. I think this was discovered in the heart sonnogram.

Hi and thanks for these updates!
Signs of hyperthyroidism include rapid heart rate, anxiety, palpitations, high blood pressure, diarrhea, excessive sweating, etc. This is usually screened for by doing a TSH level which is often very indicative of the functional status of the heart.
I find it strange that there was no electrical abnormality but there was a preventricular contractions. This condition is not an every day description and I will like your doctors to tell you what they are referring to so that I can be able to relate and comment on.
I hope this helps. i wish you well. Thank you so much for this using our services and feel free to ask for ore information if need be.
