What Causes Heart Palpitations, Tenderness In Chest Wall And Low Energy Levels?
Question: I completed 44 proton Rxs for localized prostate cancer 3 months ago. Midway through I began experiencing palpitations and chest wall pain and Tenderness. I'm a retired Internist which increases my anxiety. My energy level is low and I'm increasingly cold intolerant even for my 74 years of age. My "differential" includes pericarditis without friction rub and costosternal chondritis. My friend and "LMD" internist, the radiation oncologist and the nice folks at the large V.A. facility haven't offered any suggestions. Thank you for your consideration. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

First of all congratulations on completing definitive targeted radiation therapy for your prostate cancer. Hopefully this will lead to a long-term durable remission.
The fact that you have tenderness associated with the symptoms involving your chest is reassuring. I would tend to think this is more so related to costo chondritis. A trial of anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen for a few days might alleviate your symptoms and help to exclude this as a diagnosis.
regarding the cold intolerance, we must consider hypothyroidism as a possibility. This can be easily evaluated by your primary physician with some laboratory tests.
As for the palpitations also this is worthy of a physical examination and possibly an electrocardiogram to help rule out arrhythmia.
certainly a mouth component of thing Zaidi could be contributing to some of your symptoms as well but I don't want to ignore the possibility that there could be a physical issue.
In summary I think it would be a good idea for you to visit with your primary care physician for refocused consultation, physical examination, some screening labs and possibly an EKG. I Trilobita protein would be reasonable as well to see if this relieves what sounds like costochondritis.
