What Causes Heart Palpitations While Sleeping In A Person With Sleep Apnea?
Question: I was diagnosed with sleep apnea over 15 years ago but I never used apnea machine. Can't sleep with anything over my face. I now wake up with palpitations. Not sure if anxiety or from apnea. Didn't happen when I was travelling for 2 week's. I also have increased joint pain and fear I might be having night seizures. I feel a slight shaking when I wake at times.
Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be seizures in sleep
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Sleep apnea is mostly seen in overweight persons.
Obstruction leads to sleep apnea and thus hypoxia. Abnormal jerky movements are common in such condition while in sleep.
You need to consult a sleep specialist or pulmonologist for evaluation.
Sometimes weight reduction may be helpful. Surgical options are also available.
No possibility of seizure if there is no frothing, tongue bite, loss of consciousness or urinary incontinence.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
