What Causes Heartbeat Sound In Ears?

default
Posted on Wed, 23 Apr 2014
Question: Thank you. My symptom is hard to describe, but it appears to be like a heartbeat in my ear (not a regular one) and more likely when I lean my head to the left. Mostly in left ear. Not like water. I have MS, Churg-Strauss Syndrome and several other problems. Not sure if related.

Brief Answer: My reply is below. Detailed Answer: Hi, Thank you for posting your query. I have noted your symptoms and it seems that you have what is called "pulsatile tinnitus". Most often, it is related to blood vessel disorders (either decreased or increased blood flow to brain, ear or neck). In rare cases, very vascular tumours in the neck could also cause that. A good brain scan such as MRI with angiogram of brain, and clinical examination would be able to exclude all the significant causes for your symptom. I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.
