default
Posted on Mon, 7 Dec 2015
Question: Hi,

My father is 67 years old. He has the following problems:-
a. High BP since last 10 years. If he does not take medicines the BP jumps to 170/83 and heart beat 44.
b. Diabetic since last 6 years. As of now the sugar level is normal.
For BP he is having the following medicines:-
moxovas 0.3 - 3 times a day
cilacar 20 - 2 times a day
tazyloc 40 gm - 2 times a day
CTD 6.25 mg - 1 time a day
For sugar he is having the following medicines:-
Glycyfit G1 - 2 times a day
Karnim - 2 times a day
Febustat 40 - 1 time a day
Apart from the above he is having following medicines also:-
Stator Aspirin- 1 time a day
Shelcal CT - 3 times a day
Amaryl - 1/2 tablet twice a day
Uprised3 (6000) - once in a month
Urimax d (0.4 mg) - 1 time a day
Due to the intake of so many medicines, he sometimes feels very weak. I was wondering why so many medicines have to be taken for BP and sugar. Is there any alternative where he can take less medicines and feel good and energetic.
Thanks & Regards,
XXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your message.
I think I can help you.
First that many medicines are needed to keep the BP and sugars controlled.
You have yourself stated that Bp shoots up if medicines are reduced.
Sugars will be same.
I am not sure why he is on febuxostat. it's not for sugars. it's for uric acid increase.
similarly , I am not sure why ecosprin is on unless he had a heart attack or stroke.
I am not sure why statins have been started if he has no high cholesterol levels.
Similarly if vitamin D levels are normal, uprise d may not be needed.
and if there Is no urine issues urotone may not be needed.

I think you should talk to yourdoctor why some of the medicines are on the prescription.
by the way, amaryl is for diabetes.

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information contained in this message will be able to help you find the best solution for your problem. Best of luck. Dr Mittal

Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for replying to my question.
I know my father's BP goes up without medicine. But wanted to check if there is any alternative of taking less medicines for BP as compared to 4 medicines. Also his heartbeat becomes 44 without medicines. Wanted to check if there is any problem with his heart functioning?
In your answer above you have mentioned about ecosprin, I believe you are referring to Stator Aspirin. Please correct me if Iam wrong.
Yes, his diabetes is now under control, but he has been asked to take medicines.
Is there any doctor you can recommend in Kharghar(Navi Mumbai) or nearby place as my father stays in Kharghar.
Once again thank you very much for taking out time for replying to my mail.

Regards,

XXXX

Detailed Answer:
You can visit the MGM medical college.
I think it would help you going there.
and yes by ecosprin, I meant the same medicine.
as for the low heart rate it would be good to test a echocardiography.
Best of luck. Dr Mittal
