What Causes High White Blood Cells Count?
Question: Recently I had blood work done. The doctor's office asked me to come in to repeat it because it showed an extremely high level of white blood cells though no infection present. I am slim, fit and have never smoked. Thanks!
Brief Answer:
HIGH WBC IS ALARMING; RE-TEST OR BONE MARROW IS NECESSARY!
Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam.
Thanks for your health query!
Generally, high/very high total WBC count is suggestive of some severe silent / chronic infection or neoplastic condition of the early/precursor blood cells. If the results do not match physical signs/symptoms, the clinician may ask for a repeat test for confirmation that might include a bone marrow examination!
Therefore, a count / percentage of the differential components is necessary for a definitive opinion!
Please share more details (differential count!) for a better opinion!
Regards!
