What Causes Hives On Arms After Taking A Hot Shower?

default
Posted on Mon, 18 Apr 2016
Question: Hi there. I get hives on my arms after a hot bath or being in a hot tub. I also sometimes wake up in the middle of the night with hives on my arms from being hot. Should I be worried about this? It is only on my arms and it has never affected my breathing or anything. Can this turn into an anaphylaxis reaction? Is there anything I can do to treat this besides preventing hot/warm water? I have never had this happen before throughout my whole life up until a couple months ago.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for contacting HCM

I'm Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf and will look into your problem.
I have gone through your query and would try to guide you in best possible way. Formation of hives mean that there is an ongoing allergic reaction. In your case it could be due to hot bath. Best way is to avoid the cause but as in your case its not absolutely possible so there are certain measures that can help in reducing the symptoms. If i were your treating doctor then I would have advised Tab cetirizine one at night. It is an antihistamine medication which prevents allergic response. You can also discuss with your local doctor regarding the use of montelukast. Researches have shown that it reduces the incidence of allergic reaction.
As far as your second query regarding anaphylactic reaction is concerned, there is a slight possibility that body may undergo anaphylactic reaction but as no such incident occured untill now so there is quite possibility that it will not occur. In case it occurs, you must seek immediate medical attention.

Hope I have answered your query. Feel free to get back to me if you have any query. If not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
