What Causes Hot Air From Ear Healing Of Perforated Eardrum?

default
Posted on Sat, 7 Feb 2015
Question: I have perforated eardrum 45 days ago and got healed. From past week days some times hot air is coming out from ears. I have consulted two doctors. One said only thin healing has done and prescribed bunch of medicines and other told there is no issue with ear its viral infection and prescribed few medicines (i.e., medrol 16mg(1/2), XXXXXXX 500mg, Doxolin) for 3 days. I have used this course and even i feel some hot air coming out from ear but not much as earlier.

What is the exact problem...does my ear healed or not....? Please advise

Brief Answer:
Needs audiometry tests.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having persistent discomfort in ear.

45 days healed perforation, two ENT surgeons confirmation (no perforation) suggest your new ear drum is fine and working good.

Post perforation, new ear drum is always thin, (normal one contains 3 layers, new one contains 2 layers).

As such, there is no hearing loss, ear discharge or pain (no signs of inflammation), you can ignore this issue.

Hot air through ears, common in hormonal imbalance or anxiety.

In my opinion, you need to do audiometry tests, to rule out Eustachian tube dysfunction and hearing loss.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks Sir for your reply.

Post perforation, new ear drum is always thin, (normal one contains 3 layers, new one contains 2 layers).

Question: when will 3 layers will form?

As such, there is no hearing loss, ear discharge or pain (no signs of inflammation), you can ignore this issue.

Hearing Loss - Does not exist;
Ear discharge - Does not exist;
Pain - it comes all of sudden..but bearable.

Hot air through ears, common in hormonal imbalance or anxiety.

Is there a chance to avoid this? Along with hot Air...whistle like sound comes from ear.

In my opinion, you need to do audiometry tests, to rule out Eustachian tube dysfunction and hearing loss.

Did Audiometry tests - Doctor said its normal...

So i feel hot air coming out of ear...and whistle sounds from both ears...i have not faced this issue earlier....after perforated ear drum...only i am seeing this type of issues..could you please advise the next steps....to reduce the sounds from ear (when i sit at home) if i am in traffic i do not notice this behavior...

My question is
Doctor -1: Said its viral infection due to whether change...
Doctor -2: Still perforated ear drum exists and give medicines...

what is correct?

Brief Answer:
needs precautions.

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Answers for your queries.

1. healed perforation always 2 layers (3 layers will not form in healed perforation).

2. Whistle like sounds common during healing phase.

3. Precautions- avoid water per ear during bath for 3-6 months (to prevent reinfection), have regular follow up (every month-to know the status of new eardrum). Avoid freezer products (curd/ice creams) to prevent cold or sinus infections (ear drum infection is common during cold). Do not attempt ear buds or self cleaning.

4. It takes 3-6 months for proper healing.

Hope, I have answered your query.

Take care.
