Question: Hello, I am a talented poet who experiences increased heart rate, difficulty with mental focusing, lack of hunger, racing thoughts, and a sometimes rabbling tongue that I did not learn to control unless it was in a school or work environment. I think I only have the symptoms half the time. Is it possible for someone to have a case of Bipolar Disorder if I am able to hold a job, wake myself up in the morning, cook my own meals, and have successful relationships?I found out my dad did not tell me about a heart murmur he thinks I outgrew if that helps any.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
Yes it possible for a person of bipolar mood disorder to hold a job, wake myself up in the morning, cook my own meals, and have successful relationships. Cant be confident to label you as a bipolar mood disorder as the info is not sufficient, but you are definitely having a depression. Depression can occur with regular stress and it can also occur biologically without any stress as well. You need proper treatment for the same. There are various effective therapies for depression like fluoxetine, venlafaxine, bupropion, mirtazapine or escitalopram and they are all very effective and mostly safe. You may also require some benzodiazepines like clonazepam or lorazepam for a short period like 2-3 weeks to reduce the anxiety and help with your sleep.
If you are averse to the drug therapies then there is also an option of cognitive behavioural therapy. This therapy is taken by either a psychologist or a psychiatrist in which the therapist identifies impaired cognitions (Thoughts) and try to correct them. They are 15-20 min weekly session and there should be around 8-10 sessions to help you with your illness.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.

Does that mean there is a difference between Bipolar Disorder and Bipolar Mood Disorder? And are you just as confident to think it is depression if the symptoms happen regularly?

Brief Answer:
They are. the same.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Bipolar disorder and bipolar mood disorder are both the same.
For a diagnosis of bipolar disorder there has to be an episode of mania or hypomania. If not it cannot be a bipolar disorder.
I feel you have a depressive disorder.

Hello Doctor,

I have avoided finding out how long the symptoms last, but now I think that would be my next step. I do have nights where I think I cannot sleep because my heart is beating too fast. I thought it could not be simply depression if I am not unmotivated and simply don't feel hungry sometimes. I have started to feel like it chooses a particular time of the month to visit me. Maybe it would be good if I tried to figure out how long it lasts? It has been so good to finally talk to a doctor about this. Thank you very much. I am glad to know that it is possible to function and have something at the same time. That reality really gave me doubt before.

Brief Answer:
It could be depression

Detailed Answer:
Hello
It would be wise to look for the duration of depression.
But still I vonsider depression or probably with mixed anxiety disorder seems to be the cause.
