![default](/r/images/default.png)

My question is the doctor wants to give me cimzig injections and I would rather take something in pill form so I am not tied down to this doctor for ever getting shots periodicaly. we spoke about some form of medication and he was unsure what would work for me it seems that I am taking lipitor and toprol and one or two of the mdiications suggested reacts against the toprol or lipitor. is there any oral medication I can take that would not interfere with the mdications I am presently taking Thank You XXXXXXX Millman

What is the difference between RA and osteoarthritis, my doctor said I have RA but I am not so sure, also is there a different type of drugs for each. from what the doctor had mentioned in the past there are loads of drugs for arthritis, my question is I do not want to take injections which he reccommended for cimzia which I am trying to avoid, the reason being is I do not want to be tied down going back to the doctor for an injection for as long as I would be on the cimzia. I find it hard to believe that there are so few oral medications to use for both forms of arthritis, that would not have an adverse affect on the medication I am presently taking TOPROL, LIPITOR, NIASPAN, FLOMAX, OMEPRAZOLE, a baby aspirin and vitamins. You previously wrote back about using leflunomide but looking it up it has some serious adverse affects. Can you suggest other oral drugs for either form of arthritis that are not as potentially as toxic as methotrexate or the leflunomide, Thank you looking forward to your reply, XXXXXXX Millman.

Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for reverting back.
Well osteoarthritis is degenerative arthritis , and rheumatoid is inflammatory arthritis . Both are different. DMARDS are only used for rheumatoud arthritis . Sulphasalazine and hydroxychloroquine are other drugs that can be used in rheumatoid arthritus . For osteoarthritis , there are no special medicines only supportive care for joint lubrication and exercise will do the trick . All DMARDS do have side effects but your doctor will screen you for all these regularly so there is nothing to worry about that . And since you were on methotrexate , you must be having rheumatoid arthritis not osteoarthritis.
