What Causes Increased Vaginal Itching And Pain After Intercourse?
Question: I have been experiencing vaginal itching and pain which is worsened during intercourse.

In someone your age, the most common cause of vaginal itching and irritation is from a yeast infection from Candida. If the vaginal tissue is quite irritated, this could explain the pain with intercourse.
Usually there is some discharge (whitish) when there is a vaginal yeast infection.
Treatment is a non-prescription anti yeast cream such as clotrimazole or miconazole, used inside the vagina for the given length of time specified on the product. Don't have intercourse during the time you are using an anti yeast cream.
Another possibility is that there is not enough lubrication during intercourse, which can usually be remedied with a longer time spent in foreplay, or with a lubricant meant for this purpose, such as Astroglide. Vaginal dryness is more common following the menstrual period, when the hormones are at their lowest.
If you are not sure which might be the case, you can go in to your doctor for a vaginal swab to test for yeast or other microbial overgrowth such as bacterial vaginosis.
