What Causes Increasing Abdominal Discomfort, Soft Stool And Painful Bowel Movement?

default
Posted on Wed, 2 Sep 2015
Question: About four years ago I had a tumor removed from my lower abdomen. The last two to three weeks I've been experiencing increasing discomfort and my stool has softened and really hurts to have a BM. In the last couple of days the discomfort has spread from my abdomen to include possibly my kidneys? Not sure, but my entire midriff hurts.

Brief Answer:
You may try probiotic intake.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Can you please give some more information about the tumor you have had removed? Have you had incision in the front or back? Was the abdominal cavity opened? Was it benign or malignant tumor? Can you please attach a pathologist report?

Your symptoms can be caused by some gastrointestinal infection. This is the most common reason of such symptoms. This is more possible if you have had antibiotic therapy recently or distant travel.
If you have also back pain and some frequent urinating, burning while urinating, fever, kidney infection can be the case.

I assume that you have had an abdominal surgery. If so, there is a risk of adhesions causing partial bowels obstruction. This leads to mentioned by you symptoms. Additionally cramps and occasional gas obstruction can appear.

I suggest you to consult your doctor if you find an obstruction possible.
If an infection seems most probable, please start probiotic intake and see if this will help. Urine analysis should be done to rule out kidney infection.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

The incision was in the back, very near my rectum and was benign. I am at work and don't have a report to send you. It feels as though I'm trying to push a baseball through the eye of a needle. It feels the same way it did when I had the tumor removed i.e, painful BM's and a lot of pressure in my midriff, (not from gas) and consistent sharp abdominal pain when not using the restroom.

Brief Answer:
The tumor might have reccur.

Detailed Answer:
So maybe it was not a tumor but an abscess and fistula? If so, it may recur. And most likely it has recurred. If you find this symptoms similar to those 4 years before, the conclusion is simple, it has recurred. Please consult general surgeon or proctologist with it.
