default
Posted on Mon, 18 Apr 2016
Question: Hello, I am a 38 year old male. I have gotten Urethritus from time to time through out my adult life. I have been with my partner for 18 years and now I am always at risk for ecoli based infections. I was treated recently with Cipro twice a day. It has been a week. Things are better some days no symptoms at all other days still some inflammation and itching. It has been about a week since I have stopped my antibiotic.
Will I need more antibiotics or just give it time.

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are mostly due to Chronic prostatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted and in view of symptoms since a long time it appears that you have chronic infection of Prostate (Prostatitis)

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Do you have other urinary symptoms like painful urination ,painful ejaculation ,pain in perineal region etc

Consult qualified Urologist for clinical examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis
3) Semen Examination and culture

Take broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefixime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkalizer thrice daily .Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Ensure to drink more water .To keep your urine dilute This will help to control dysuria.

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
