Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day
I do understand your concern and apprehension about your kid.
Babies with acute
gastroenteritis sometimes do develop oral and gum lesion and is likely to be due to Zinc and
Vitamin B2 deficiency. Nutritional supplementation with Zinc and Vitamin B complex containing syrup willl be beneficial.
Decreased Urine output in the presence of gastroenteritis is indicative of
dehydration, I would suggest you to also look for following sings of dehydration
1. Look at the oral cavity and tongue: Dry tongue is suggestive of dehydration
2. Look for tears in eyes:
dry eyes are also suggestive of dehydration
3. Pinch the skin over forearm and release it: If the skin goes back to normal location,it implies the skin turgor is maintained by sufficient celular fluid.
I would suggest you the following which will definitely be helpful
1. Home made ORS or WHO recommended ORS: Drinking just plain water may lead to electrolyte disturbance, so would suggest you to give ORS, it will also replace the electrolytes
2. Probiotic : Probiotic comtaining Lactobcillus will be helpful
3. Maintain nutrition: Banana, wheat porridge, rice water, Pomegranate juice will be helpful.
In the presence of the following would suggest you to consult your
Pediatrician. 1.Refusal of feeds and fluids,
2.persistent low urine output,
3.if the child looks lethargic
4. presence of blood in stools
Rash is sometimes seen due to dehydration, there is no cause for concern.
Do write to me, if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.
