What Causes Intense Fatigue, Tingly Feelings On Body And Neck Tightness?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Oct 2015
Question: I have recently been very run down. I had blood work done and it's pretty normal. At one point I was almost unable to do physical labour. Body felt numb and had to sit down frequently or felt like falling down. Tightness in neck and jaw, felt tingly throughout my body. Feels like a flemmy build up on my chest but it won't come out. Did one round of antibiotics and it helped, but hasn't eliminated everything. Will start a second round today to see if it helps. White blood cell count is normal. Coughing and trying to clear my throat a lot. Still feel tight and tingly around the eyes, jaw, neck and chest. I know this is quite a bit, but I just want to get rid of it.
Thank you XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Purpose of antibiotic?

Detailed Answer:
Good afternoon. Sorry you're feeling so run down but I'm wondering what infection your doctor is treating by giving you 2 rounds of antibiotics in the face of normal bloodwork and what sounds to be an overall normal physical examination except for the intense fatigue and symptoms of tingling. If this is an infectious process then, the odds are much more heavily in favor of a viral illness from what you describe as opposed to bacterial. And that's even if it's infectious. There are so many other causes to fatigue that I'd try and concentrate and those entities first. If this is viral it will run its course. I would not recommend a 2nd round of antibiotics as this will actually be counterproductive to your immune system and turn it down even a notch or 2 more than it already is at this point.

I would recommend looking at thyroid hormones (TSH, FT4), cortisol levels, I might want to see your CBC and differential count...possibly consider a blood smear if there are signs of anemia or other abnormalities. I would stick with a more conservative approach to things but resting, drinking plenty of fluids of the water, juice, or milk types and stay clear of pop, tea, and other caffeinated beverages.

I may consider looking at other blood tests such as Sedimentation Rate, C-reactive protein, B12, folate, and Vitamin D, D2, and D3, if you don't mind giving a few additional vials of blood.

I hope these suggestions and opinions satisfactorily address your question and give some additional information that you can discuss with the doctor for consideration. If so, may I ask your favor of a HIGH STAR RATING with some written feedback?

Also, if there are no other comments, may I ask you not forget to CLOSE THE QUERY on your end so the question can be transacted and archived for further reference by colleagues as necessary?
