What Causes Inter-menstrual Bleeding?

default
Posted on Fri, 19 Aug 2016
Question: Six months ago I started having some bleeding in between my periods that would last for about a week. A couple of days they were heavier and then would taper off. It was similar to my period, but lighter. This happened for two or three months. For the next two months I didn't have any bleeding in between periods, but I did have a clear discharge. Last month I started to have some spotting in between my period and also some blood streaks in my mucus discharge. I usually have the discharge a week after my period but this time there was blood. This month I had a little bit of spotting, then a dark clot twice, then some blood again in my mucus discharge. This lasted a week and the amount of blood in the mucus tapered off. I was trying to feel my cervix and it felt like part of my cervix was rounder and very firm next to the vaginal wall towards the back of the cervix. It didn't hurt when I touche d it. I'm not sexually active. I'm trying to get in to see a doctor,b ut I am fearing the worst. My periods have been heavier in the beginning but not longer. Sometimes when I get a cramp from my period it hurts a little more on the left center part of my lower abdomen.

Please fix appointment with Gynecologist at the earliest

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns.

I have read your notes.

The reason for this frequent irregular bleeding and spotting could be due to
1 Hormonal imbalance. This hormonal imbalance can occur due to physical or mental stress
2. Thyroid disease
3 cervical or endometrial polyp
4 cervical erosion
5. Ovarian cyst though rare.
6. Precancerous condition of cervix/ cancer. This is very rare. This cause may be considered if you were sexually active before.

Please fix appointment with Gynecologist for internal examination, blood test and ultrasound. This would clarify the cause for bleeding so that treatment can be planned.

I hope this is helpful.
If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.
