What Causes Intermittent Cough And Fever After Treating Bronchitis?
Question: My 11 year old son has had a cough (non productive) and a fever on and off for almost two weeks. Some stuffy nose and sore throat, but mostly the cough and the fever. He had bronchitis a few years ago, and he says it feels very similar.
Brief Answer:
Needs throat swab and chest examination
Detailed Answer:
Hi Thanks for writing to us.
With symptoms lasting for 2 weeks it could be either chest or throat infection.
I would suggest you to get his throat swab tested for streptococcal infection.
He needs a chest examination to rule out bronchitis.
If confirmed he might need antibiotics like amoxicillin.
If he has associated Wheezing then bronchodilators like albuterol might help.
Keep him hydrated well and continue your current treatment meanwhile.
Wishing your child good health.
