Question: Hi,
I'm looking into seeing a urologist in the next few weeks but I just wanted to know what you think the likelihood is for prostate cancer as opposed to something else like prostatitis with the following symptoms.
Frequent and urgent urination that comes and goes, sometimes for a few weeks it will be fine and then one day i'll be urinating every hour.
mild discomfort in the lower ribs and abdomen on the right side.
fatigue and lethargy that also comes and goes often i'll feel great and other times weak and terrible.
erectile weakness.
ejaculatory weakness.

Brief Answer:
Prostatitis and not prostate cancer

Detailed Answer:
Good Day and thank you for being with Healthcare Magic!

I would bet that the likelihood of you harboring prostate cancer is very very low. In your age group as long, as you don't have a first degree relative who had prostate cancer at a young age (less then 40), then chance of prostate cancer is very low. To screen for prostate cancer you need to get a serum PSA which is always elevated for prostate cancer.

I would say your symptoms points to prostatitis and maybe due to stress at work or school. Prostate cancer rarely have symptoms unless it is already stage IV.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://www.HealthcareMagic.com/doctors/dr-manuel-c-see-iv/66014 I would gladly help you. Best wishes

Hi,
Thanks so much for your helpful response.
I wanted to add that this condition began with an onset of epiditymitis and that during the course of the antibiotics, my symptoms were dissipating and almost completely gone at the end of the two weeks. When I stopped them, the symptoms started to come back.
I have one refill on the dioxycycline. Is refilling the prescription to try another two week course of the medication something you think would help. I know you stated that in your opinion this is not bacterial prostititis however the medication was helpful.
Thanks very much

Brief Answer:
Combine doxycycline with an antibacterial.

Good Day and thank you for being with Healthcare Magic!

With my patients, I usually combine doxycycline with an antibacterial like Cefixime or ciprofloxacin. That way I am treating both the bacterial and non-bacterial causes of prostatitis and epidiymitis. I hope this would help a lot.
