What Causes Intermittent Pulsing Sensation At Base Of Throat?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
This morning under stress I was feeling an intermittent pulsing pressuring at the base of my throat. It is still mildly there. It feels sort of feels like a knot there and comes and goes at fairly wide interrvals.
Most commonly dry throat and dehydration.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
1. The most common reasons for such a sensation would be a dry throat either from mouth breathing at night or as a side effect of your current medication. Stress and dehydration would worsen the symptoms.
2. It is better to get the throat examined as some other common reasons such as a foreign body, indigestion, acid reflux and a post nasal drip should be ruled out. I am assuming that you do nor have any problems swallowing, speaking or breathing.
3. Some times it is spasm of the upper esophageal sphincter due to the irritation from the reasons above. This requires imaging and endoscopy to rule out.
4. In the meantime, increase your fluid intake and review your current medication with your physician.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.
Regards.
