What Causes Intermittent Severe Right-sided Groin Pain While Treating Stage-IV Breast Cancer?
Question: I have intermittent but extremely severe pain in my groin on the right side. I have Stage IV breast cancer, diabetes (w insulin) and am being treated with medication for high blood pressure (which is stable and normal now as is my high cholesterol). l Have gone to the ER because of the pain which was worse than labor. They found no blood in my urine and so dismissed kidney stones. I had a PET and CT scan a month ago which showed nothing in the area. I have not had an attack like the one that sent me to the ER since that first one but I do have periodic twinges that cause me to lie down and not move to avoid aggravating n. If the cancer has moved to a lymph node in the groin could it produce that much pain? The ER doc said it was my appendix and wasn't situated in a spot that would normally suggest kidney stones. Any ideas? Pain is in right groin and radiates up the side and down the right leg when in full aggravation.
typo - ER doc said it wa NOT my appendix - sorry.
Also forgot - I have an IVC filter in the vena cava which was placed by going through my leg. When pain radiated down my leg it goes to the inside of my leg to the arch of my foot. Where it radiates up is not so specific.
The PET/CT scan showed no evidence of disease but the PET scan showed some activity in the liver that was not corroborated by the CT scan. I had an MRI of my liver last Friday. Should get results on Mon.

Brief Answer:
Hello dear. Here are few differentials
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. Sorry to hear you are in pain. I can suggest you some differential for you conditions.
Although you had a PET scan last mth, that was ok for that area but still in a cancer patient ist diagnosis still will be pelvic metastasis.
Second it could be due to a patholgy of hip joint due to its location and anterior pain.
Third, it could be due to a low ureteric stone.
Very uncommonly appendix as your doc rightly said.
An MRI of that region can tell about these condition. So i will suggest you to undergo an MRI.
Feel free to ask further and do not worry. Let the report come and then management can be decided..
Thanks and regards
