What Causes Intermittent Upper Back Pain Between Shoulder Blades?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Jan 2015
Question: I have intermittent upper back pain (t7-8 old compression fracture) kind of between my shoulder blades. These often give me a funky sensation in the chest and it feels like my heart is out of whack. Had a cardiac work up without any major findings. PVCs was the diagnosis.

Brief Answer:
Could be due to nerve compression

Detailed Answer:
Hello

My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. Whenever there is involvement of fracture of vertebrae then after healing it may press against a particular nerve. Now when that nerve is irritated then it causes pain/irritable sensation to the area to which it(nerve) supplies. As you mentioned that the fracture was old so there could be possibility that it is causing nerve irritation. I would suggest you to get an appointment for an orthopedic surgeon and get MRI of thoraco-dorsal spine done. It will show if there is any nerve entrapment for compression which will then help orthopedic surgeon to correlate clinically. Meanwhile avoid lifting heavy weight or taking stress. Both of these will only aggravate your problem.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
