What Causes Involuntary Movements In The Eyelids And Face?

Question: For the past two months I have been having muscle spasms. Originally it was just in my eyelids. I would rapidly blink three or four time. Within a week, I also developed them in several spots in my face and neck. I went to my primary care physician, who thought might have blepharospasm and referred me to a neurologist. When I went to the neurologist, I had a very bad episode where multiple spasms showed at once. When I tried to lift my head, my head started shaking from left to right. My neurologist said that it was a tic and gave me a prescription for clonazepam. I've been taking it for about a week but it doesn't seem to be helping. Today I started to develop similar problems with my hands. I don't really think that what I have is a tic and I'm considering getting a second opinion. Is there anything else that could be causing this? My neurologist didn't do any tests and made his diagnosis based on my description and what he saw. Should I have had tests done before being prescribed meds?
Brief Answer:
Upload video, Possibility of tics
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Abnormal movement involving eyelids and face may be due to hemifacial spasm, blepharospasm or tics.
Stress increases the symptoms.
The diagnosis is usually clinical and doesn't require any investigation.
You can upload videos if available.
The clonazepam can be increased.
Other drugs are also available and can be tried if increasing clonazepam doesn't help.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
