What Causes Irregular Heart Beat With Normal Stress Test?

default
Posted on Mon, 11 May 2015
Question: I had all cardiac testing done 2 months ago. Everything came back structurally normal with my heart. I have pacs and rare pvcs according to my holter monitor. I passed my stress test. My holter was always in sinus rythm. Something that worries me is the fact that my resting heart rate sometimes goes to 55 bpm. My cardiologist says there is no heart block and no SSS. He says my heart is normal and I am healthy. This scares me. Is this normal? During sleep my bpm went down to 41. My 48 hour holter said 26 % of the time in bradycardia and 13 % tachycardia. My cardiologist says this is all normal. Is this a common finding?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!

Based on the data you provided, you have a normal structural heart with normal function. The only things found on your holter 48 hours monitoring were PACs and PVCs. These are common findings and are most common benign arrhythmia.

Apart from discomfort and general malaise that they provoke, they doesn't cause an increased risk on morbidity and mortality. There's no need for any special precaution or treatment.

You have a resting HR of 55 bpm and a minimal HR of 40 bpm at sleep and these findings are pretty normal and you shouldn't worry about that. You were during all recorded time on sinus rhythm and no pauses or heart block were recorded this make your holter findings normal.

Hope it cleared your doubts and make you feel at peace!
