do you think this is normal for a 15 year old
It is completely normal for teenagers to miss menses once and a while
Detailed Answer:
Hello, and I hope I can help you today.
A young woman's menstrual cycle will not necessarily ovulate each month because her hormonal axis is still maturing. This is nothing dangerous and usually will resolve on its own. If your daughter misses six months of her cycle she should see a GYN doctor for a hormonal evaluation (she does not need a PAP smear) to rule out any medical causes of skipping her periods. Your doctor may recommend starting birth control pills to regulated her cycle, however i want to reassure you that there is nothing dangerous to worry about and you and her physician can discuss treatment options.
I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that my advice was helpful.
Best wishes,
Dr. Brown
