What Causes Irregular Spotting After Taking Ortho Tri Cyclen?
Question: I am having problems with non stop spitting on birth control. In May of 2015 I went for my annual and my gyno suggested I try another pill since my Ortho tri cyclen was making me slightly spot. Spotting that was quite tolerable but I took her recommendation I tried the pill Orsythia. I had the worst reaction to that pill, I was moody, my breasts hurt all day and I was bleeding through tampons. I was on that for 2 months and could not take it anymore. I went back on my original Ortho tri cyclen which also maybe me bleed for about 3 months. It made me depressed and ruined my sex life. Where I stand now is taking the pill Apri since October 2015 with regular spotting that would not quit. My current gyno suggested I stop taking the pills consistently without the placebo pills and now take the placebo pills on my pack. I am still sporting and currently taking the placebo pills in my pack of Apri. Any suggestions ? I am so frustrated and this whole process is making me depressed.

I have had internal testing done such as a ultrasound and all results came back normal besides having a cyst on my left ovary less than a CM in size. Do you suggest I find out how much an IUD is under my insurance? The apri pill has cleared up my skin nicely because i was having some hormonal acne and made my breasts larger but i am still spotting and at this moment will be taking the placebo pills of my pack for the first time in 6 months. There has to be some science to this, cant just be try whatever and see what works
Brief Answer:
Use OCPs cyclically
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Uterine lining of some females do not adjust to the hormonal pills, and keep on shedding while on these pills due to hormonal disturbances leading to spotting and bleeding.
This is the reason I am suggesting you to use a different mode of contraception.
Once you start taking the placebo pills, it will lead to withdrawal bleeding.
I will suggest you to take placebo pills, have full withdrawal bleeding for 5-7 days, and then restart the pills cyclically, with placebo pills after every 21 days, to assess whether the spotting has resolved.
